Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has held positive talks with Bayern Munich over a move to the club this summer.
The Spaniard is Bayernâs first choice to replace Thomas Tuchel, who will step down at the end of the season.
Leverkusen are ten points clear of Bayern in the Bundesliga table and are set to end the clubâs 11-year title-winning run.
Liverpool immediately made Alonso their first choice to replace Jurgen Klopp after the German announced in January that he intends to step down at the end of the season.
Alonso spent five years at Anfield before leaving for Real Madrid, where he spent five years before a move to Bayern.
With both clubs interested in Alonso, Sky Sports Germany say Bayern have moved quickly to hold talks with the Spaniard.
Itâs said that the secretive talks were positive, with Alonso intimating that he would be keen to move to the Allianz Arena.
Alonso is unsure over a move to Liverpool, as he feels succeeding Klopp and the legacy he will leave behind is too much of a risk.
While Alonso has not definitely decided to leave Leverkusen, he is said to be favouring staying in Germany if he does so.
Liverpool hold an interest in Roberto De Zerbi and Ange Postecoglou as viable alternatives to Alonso.
