Tottenham are set to join the race with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea for the signing of highly-rated winger Nico Williams, according to reports.
The 21-year-old has established himself as a key player for Athletic Bilbao since making his first-team breakthrough three years ago, and has six goals and 12 assists in all competitions this season.
Williams showcased all his talent when guiding Athletic to the Copa del Rey final, with the Spaniard notching up a goal and an assist in a thumping 3-0 second-leg win over Atletico Madrid.
Such performances have already caught the eye of Arsenal and Chelsea, with the Mirror now reporting that Tottenham are also readying a bid for the winger in the summer.
Despite having only signed a three-year contract extension back in December, Williams’ release clause remains at just £43million.
Spurs are said to be keen to add wide attacking reinforcement in the summer window to provide depth and competition for Heung-Min Son and Brennan Johnson.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have a £15m buy option clause in their loan deal with ex-Chelsea forward Timo Werner who has scored twice in his last two games.
The north London side are also said to be interested in a move for Wolves’ Pedro Neto and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.
Arsenal, meanwhile, will have to weigh up any bid for Williams alongside their desire to bring in a striker and central midfielder in the summer.
Mikel Arteta’s side continue to be linked with Ivan Toney and, in midfield, are long-time admirers of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi who has a €60m (£51.2m) release clause.
Chelsea will still target more summer reinforcements despite spending over £1billion on new signings under the Clearlake Capital-Todd Boehly ownership.
The club may have to be cautious with summer investment after it was announced that they had made a pre-tax loss of £90.1m in the year to 30 June 2023.
