There are three key reasons why Manchester United are so keen to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee in the summer transfer window.
Zirkzee is reportedly on a three-man shortlist along with Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Lille’s Jonathan David as the Red Devils look to bring in a new forward.
The 23-year-old Dutchman has produced 14 goals and nine assists across 58 games for Bologna to date and now looks set to join one of Europe’s top sides.
United are thought to be preparing an official move for Zirkzee but he has been linked to several other clubs including Arsenal, AC Milan and Inter Milan.
Why do Man Utd want to sign Joshua Zirkzee?
The Telegraph have outlined three reasons as to why Manchester United are desperate to win the race for Joshua Zirkzee.
The first is his age – 23 – which is seen as attractive as Zirkzee has plenty of time to improve and get even better while United will be able to offer a long contract.
The second reason is his price with Zirkzee having a £34m release clause in his current Bologna contract, likely to make him cheaper than other transfer targets.
The third and final reason is his profile with Zirkee standing at 6ft 4in – which makes him taller than United forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford.
Why is Joshua Zirkzee so highly rated?
Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti recently opened up about the club’s interest in Joshua Zirkzee and why they thought he was such a top player.
‘Zirkzee is a great champion,’ he said. ‘We are talking about a young, talented, intelligent, physically very strong player.
‘Someone like that would be useful to any great team aiming for important goals.’
It emerged on Friday that Zirkzee has abandoned a trip to Disney World to play at Euro 2024 this summer after receiving a late call-up to the Netherlands squad.
