Thomas Tuchel would be open to a surprise return to Chelsea this summer, according to reports in Germany.
Bayern Munich have already announced that Tuchel will be leaving the club at the end of the season after less than two full seasons in charge.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have a decision to make over Mauricio Pochettino’s future after supporters called for the Argentine to be sacked during their 2-2 draw with Brentford last Saturday.
According to SportBild, Tuchel’s preference is a return to the Premier League once he leaves Bayern and the 50-year-old is keeping tabs on the situation at several clubs.
The report claims that Tuchel had identified Manchester United as a potential destination but now believes Erik ten Hag will remain in charge for another campaign.
Tuchel is said to be willing to return to Chelsea this summer if the club’s co-owner, Todd Boehly, would be ready to put aside their previous differences, which led to his departure from Stamford Bridge in September 2022.
It’s understood that Tuchel had grown frustrated following Boehly’s arrival at the club and the German even described his relationship with Chelsea’s new owners as ‘intense’ just a few months before his sacking.
Speaking about his Chelsea exit a year ago, Tuchel admitted it ‘still hurt’ to no longer be a part of the club.
‘It was a shock for all of us,’ Tuchel said.
‘We had the feeling we were in the right spot at the right time to achieve big things, to build, to stay longer. We had big relationships within the staff. It still hurts in a way to not see these people on a daily basis.
‘I love this job, I have the passion. There’s no funnier place than a dressing room; joy, good jokes. That is what I miss the most.
‘We built an extraordinary bond because of the circumstances; we started during COVID, Brexit, then came the change of ownership. We were a strong group on the training ground. It felt like a family.’
