Ange Postecoglou has dismissed any worries about Son Heung-Min’s finger injury, but says Pape Sarr is playing with a back problem and Richarlison is facing weeks out with a knee issue.
Spurs had a good day on Saturday as they came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 3-1, with three late goals from Timo Werner, Cristian Romero and Son.
The South Korean star injured a finger in an altercation with international teammates during the Asian Cup, but it has not held him back since returning to London and Postecoglou had a response typical to him when asked if it was a problem.
‘It’s a finger, even if he loses it, it won’t really matter. He can still play, he’s fine,’ said the Australian.
However, Richarlison is going to be out for the majority of March due to a knee injury he suffered in the recent defeat to Wolves.
The Brazilian will be hoping to be fit for his country’s friendly against England on 23 March, and asked if the forward would be able to be called up for international duty, Postecoglou could not confirm.
‘No idea,’ said the Spurs boss. ‘We’ve still got, what, two weeks to go before then? As I said yesterday, it’s two to three weeks…
‘It’s a week-to-week proposition. But with national teams, it’s pretty clear if they want him to present himself he’ll present himself, if they deem him fit he goes, if not, he comes back to us.
‘It’s not one where…I’m not gonna try and sort of do something tricky with it. If he’s ready to go, he goes, if not he’ll be with us. It’ll be a fine line from what I understand so far, I think I said three-to-four weeks, it happened a week ago, so it’ll be in that ballpark.’
Pape Sarr came off the bench in the win over the Eagles on Saturday, but his manager admitted that the midfielder is managing a back problem.
‘He’s had a bit of a back issue since he got back from sort of the Africa Cup of Nations,’ he said of the 21-year-old. ‘He’s been dealing with it and it’s getting better but it’s not sort of totally free, so it’s something we’re working on with him.
‘It doesn’t stop him training, he’s still been training, but it does restrict him, it’s something we’re constantly working on but from what I understand he’ll be fine. Like I said he hasn’t missed training so it’s just something we’re working on with him.’
