Throughout the games she’s been supported in the crowd by her husband Jonathan Owens, himself an NFL star with the Chicago Bears.
The 29-year-old was in fact given time off from the Bears’ pre-season training camp in order to go to Paris.
However, some on social media took exception to a photo on his Instagram account of the pair with Owens wearing one of Biles’ medals.
‘That’s Simone’s gold medal you’re holding, not yours my guy,’ one comment read, while another said: ‘Why he holding it like he won it.’
Biles has now directly responded to the critics, replying to one on a TikTok comment, saying: ‘Crazy thing is, I put my medal on every single one of my family members and took pictures.
‘So don’t ever make assumptions. Like y’all are so f***ing miserable. Leave us alone.’
There were of course plenty of fans who defended the couple and lauded Owens’ support of his wife.
As well as fend off internet trolls, Biles also reignited her feud with former USA teammate MyKayla Skinner in Paris.
