The study, which was published in the journal Nature, was conducted by researchers at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom
The researchers analyzed data from over 100,000 people and found that those who were obese were more likely to develop heart disease, even if they had no other risk factors for the disease.
The study found that the risk of heart disease increased with the amount of excess weight a person carried. For example, people who were 10% to 20% above their ideal body weight had a 23% higher risk of heart disease than those who were at a healthy weight.
