Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was booked for launching a water bottle in disgust during the 3-1 derby defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
The Dutchman was shown a yellow card by referee Andrew Madley in the 57th minute immediately after Phil Foden scored to make it 1-1.
Ten Hag was left furious after Kyle Walker appeared to trip Marcus Rashford just before the goal, throwing the bottle on the ground after being denied a free-kick.
Madley decided to go back and book Ten Hag for his antics after Foden’s goal – with the midfielder’s equaliser allowed to stand despite the alleged foul.
Former Premier League referee Mike Dean told Sky Sports: ‘The contact doesn’t justify the way Rashford went down. It’s not a foul and play on was the correct decision.’
Former Manchester City star Micah Richards also shrugged off the incident in his post-match analysis, insisting that Rashford was not fouled.
Ex-United defender Gary Neville, meanwhile, said: ‘Manchester United are asking for a foul on Rashford.
‘Ten Hag is complaining and getting booked. There was nothing in that.’
Ten Hag was quizzed about the incident after the match and said: ‘I looked back and asked Rashy if there was contact. Maybe soft, but there was contact.’
City’s 3-1 win means that Ten Hag has now lost four of his five Manchester derbies as manager of the Red Devils.
