Ruben Amorim faces a midfield rethink when Manchester United host Newcastle United for a Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Monday.
The Red Devils are without both Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte for their final game of 2024 against Eddie Howe’s men.
The United captain is suspended after being sent off in the Boxing Day defeat at Wolves while Ugarte misses out after receiving five yellow cards.
Christian Eriksen or Casemiro could be named in the United XI while Amorim is likely to hand the armband to Harry Maguire against Newcastle.
Maguire, praised by Amorim in the build-up to the game, is expected to continue in central defence while Matthijs de Ligt could come back into the XI to face the Magpies after illness.
There is no Mason Mount for United, who will not return from his latest injury until at least January.
There is also still no word on when Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof will be available for the Red Devils.
Given United’s poor form under Amorim, his tendency for changing the lineup and question marks over the futures of Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford, it is hard to accurately predict the United XI right now.
But Metro has had a go at predicting the United lineup for Monday’s clash against Newcastle, which you can see below, along with information on how to watch the top-clash clash on TV in the United Kingdom.
