Sancho’s future at Old Trafford is unclear with United open to selling the winger but not pushing for him to leave.
The England international has struggled for form since his £73million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, while a public fallout with Erik ten Hag a year ago appeared to end his United career.
But following a decent loan spell back at Dortmund, Sancho returned to first-team training at Carrington over the summer and buried the hatchet with his manager.
That hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from swirling however, with PSG tentatively linked with the 24-year-old, but it seems his future could lie at another Premier League giant – at least, that’s what the Red Devils think.
The Athletic report that ‘some at United sense Chelsea may make an approach’ for Sancho, which follows reports that the Blues were prepared to offer their rivals a fee plus two academy players for the forward.
Sancho, who missed United’s opening Premier League win against Fulham last Friday because of an ear infection, is valued at £40m but his £300,000-a-week wages are putting off potential buyers.
It would seem very strange for Chelsea to have interest in the winger given that they are already well-stocked on both flanks through the likes of Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Christopher Nkunku, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and the incoming Joao Felix.
That said, stranger things have happened at Stamford Bridge regarding the transfer market, with Felix’s incoming arrival prompting an astonishing rant from Jamie Carragher.
‘Chelsea have just got to stop buying players and players have just got to stop signing for Chelsea,’ the Liverpool legend said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.
‘Joao Felix. Tell me, where is he going to play? They signed Neto a week ago, they’ve already got Cole Palmer.
‘Where are you going to play Enzo Fernandez, a £100million player who plays at No.10? Where are you going to play Nkunku?’
United meanwhile are expected to make a few sales before the transfer window closes in 10 days’ time, with Facundo Pellistri off to Panathinaikos, with Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Hannibal Mejbri also on the transfer list.
