Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was left furious at Sheffield United after their 6-0 defeat at home to Arsenal on Monday, labelling them a ‘disgrace’.
Carragher’s former club Liverpool are currently involved in a Premier League title race with the Gunners and there is just 11 top-flight games left this season.
There’s little doubt Carragher would have been hoping to see Arsenal slip up at Bramall Lane to boost his beloved Reds but the Blades barely put up a fight.
Arsenal raced into a 5-0 lead after just 39 minutes thanks to Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and an own goal from Jayden Bogle.
Ben White added a sixth in the second half to wrap up the victory which means Arsenal are now just two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Carragher ripped into Sheffield United after the match as he told Sky Sports: ‘That was a disgrace, that [first] half of football.
‘It’s probably one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen. I can’t think of anything worse I’ve ever seen in a half of football than that.
‘If Arsenal were playing an FA Cup tie against a team from League Two or the National League, I wouldn’t expect them to be 5-0 up at half-time, so that’s not acceptable in the Premier League.’
Arsenal are attempting to land their first Premier League trophy in 20 years having pushed Manchester City all the way last season.
Mikel Arteta’s side led the Premier League table for 248 days in the 2022-23 campaign, the most for a team who failed to win the title in top-flight history.
