The Bayern Munich striker is already England’s record goal-scorer having netted 66 times in 99 appearance for the Three Lions.
To reach 100 goals would be a stunning achievement for the 31-year-old, but he is aiming high and sees it as an achievable target in the years to come.
‘What is it, 34 goals? I mean, it is strange, I have touched on it a bit, 100 caps have come round so quickly, especially the last few years playing three major tournaments in such a short space of time,’ said Kane.
‘In those years I’ve done around 15, 16, 17 caps a year whereas a normal year would be 10. The goals were similar, I felt I was on 30 goals and then, bam, I went to 50 and 60. It is definitely there and definitely possible.
‘I feel like I am in a good place and these are good targets to try to reach. Some people may see them as unrealistic but I would rather go for something unrealistic and not quite make it rather than be comfortable just saying I will be happy with 70 or 80 goals.’
Kane will continue his quest for a century of goals against Finland at Wembley this week, and encouraging him on his pursuit is the exploits of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 39-year-old took his professional tally to 901 goals during the current international break, scoring for Portugal against both Croatia and Scotland, with the veteran now having scored 132 goals for his country.
Kane looks to the iconic striker, and his old rival Lionel Messi, as inspiration and hopes to replicate their longevity.
‘I feel both physically and mentally at a peak in my career. Just watching other players like Ronaldo scoring his 901st goal yesterday and seeing him compete at 38, 39 years old, just inspires me to play for as long as possible,’ said the England captain.
‘I love this game, I love representing England more than anything and I don’t want it to end any time soon. For me, it is about continuing to improve, being consistent in an England shirt and at club level.
‘Who knows how many caps or goals I can get but I am hungry for more and determined to keep pushing the boundaries.’
Kane takes great pride in his longevity already as he prepares to join an elite group of players to win 100 caps for England.
‘To consistently play at a high level is really difficult and that’s why I have so much respect for Ronaldo and Messi,’ he said. ‘To be able to do it for 15, 20 years is some mindset, some achievement.
‘As an England No 9, you come up against the best strikers in the country, trying to take your place. You have to be able to set a high standard every time you are in camp, every time you train or play. I have been able to do that and I am proud of that because it is not easy.’
