Brazil sensation Endrick paid tribute to England and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton after scoring the winning goal against the Three Lions at Wembley.
During a tight contest between the two sides on Saturday night, 17-year-old sensation Endrick was brought off the bench after 71 minutes.
Shortly after his introduction he made his mark, slotting home after England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had initially saved Vinicius Jr’s effort to score his first goal for his country in just his third appearance.
His goal made history, with Endrick becoming the youngest ever male player to score at Wembley, also making him the youngest player to score for Brazil since Ronaldo.
Coincidentally, tonight’s winner in London came exactly 30 years to day since the legendary striker’s international debut.
Endrick, who will join Real Madrid this summer, underlined that particular landmark post-match.
The youngster also noted his goal came at the spiritual home of one of English football’s greatest ever players in Charlton, insisting it was a ‘very important memory for him’.
‘A guy who is an idol here is also Bobby Charlton, playing in the stadium that Bobby played, scoring on the day Ronaldo debuted. These are very important memories for me,’ Endrick said.
Charlton, who died at the age of 86 last year, won 106 caps for his country, lifting the World Cup with England in 1966 and the European Cup with Manchester United two years later, both at Wembley.
Endrick collapsed to his knees as the final whistle blew in the capital as he celebrated scoring the first of what is expected to be many in Brazil colours.
‘I was just thinking about that (the goal), I couldn’t think about the game anymore, it even hurt me a little,’ Endrick said after the match.
‘It’s a unique memory. My family is here, my girlfriend, my managers. I’m not much of a crier, I’m holding back, but it’s something unique and I’m very happy.’
Brazil return to friendly action next week against Spain as they continue their preparations for their Copa America campaign this summer.
