Daniele De Rossi has been sacked by Roma after eight months as head coach following a winless start to the Serie A season.
De Rossi, who spent nearly two decades at Roma as a player, took over as head coach in January after José Mourinho was dismissed. He signed a contract extension until 2027 in June.
A club statement read: “The decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages.
“A heartfelt thank you to Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorossi club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication.”
De Rossi was sent off at the end of Roma’s 1-1 draw at Genoa on Sunday leaving the club 16th in the Serie A table.
The midfielder was adored by Roma fans and had an illustrious career with the club between 2001 and 2019.
