Chelsea and Australia superstar Sam Kerr called a policeman ‘a stupid white PC’ amid a dispute over a taxi fare, according to new reports.
Kerr, one of the biggest names in women’s football, was charged with racially aggravated harassment this week over an alleged incident in January 2023.
The 30-year-old, who has helped Chelsea win four Women’s Super League titles, aimed the insult at PC Lovell from the Metropolitan Police in Twickenham.
That’s according to reports about the alleged incident, with Kerr pleading not guilty and set for a trial next year.
They report that Kerr – who will return to court to try have the case thrown out -was allegedly involved in a disagreement over a taxi fare when she made the racial insult and was later sick in the back of the vehicle after a boozy night out.
The Matildas star, who is the all-time leading Australian international scorer, allegedly did not inform Football Australia about her charge, sparking confusion from both chief executive James Johnson and boss Tony Gustavsson.
‘We are trying to get to the bottom of it at the moment,’ Football Australia chief Johnson told reporters in Adelaide.
‘We have got our own questions that we’d like to know [answers to], we have got to find out what actually happened.
‘But we also want to say that there is a process that is under way in the United Kingdom and that process needs to run its course.’
Gustavsson meanwhile, added: ‘Obviously [I] was surprised. I can make it very clear that [this week] was the very first time I ever heard about it.’
