Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr has announced that his son, DeAndre, has died by suicide.
DeAndre, who would have turned 33 in July, was one of Jones’ three sons who he shared with wife Natlyn.
He had a twin brother DeShaun and an older brother Roy III. During his teenage years, DeAndre formed a rap trio called ‘3D’ with DeShaun and their cousin Dyllon Burnside.
Jones Jr said he spent DeAndre’s final evening with him and other family members on Friday before he took his own life at the weekend.
In a statement, Jones Jr said: ‘Unfortunately my son DeAndre took his life Saturday.
‘I’m so thankful that god allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family.
‘I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life. God gives it and god should be the one to take it away.
‘Please respect our privacy while my family and I process this loss. Thank you for the love and support.’
Jones Jr, 55, is regarded as an all-time boxing great with a record of 66-10.
He held world titles in four weight divisions across the span of his 35-year professional career.
His last fight was in April 2023 when he lost to former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.
